Principal Found Half Naked And Smoking Pot with Student
It would seem that the news is always finding cases where a student and a teacher are having inappropriate sexual relations. While the rise in this issue could be concerning to some there is a good chance that the following story will make you even more uncomfortable. On Wednesday the principal of a Florida Charter school was found smoking marijuana, in a car, with an 18-year-old student. She was also found to have her blouse unbuttoned.
The incident in question occurred at the Palm Springs charter school known as the Maverick High School. This is a privately held school that is run by a larger corporation. The CEO of the business was approached and asked for comment but all she would say is “it’s an unfortunate circumstance.” While this might be true the most unfortunate circumstance of all is that this principle was allowed to lead another school.
Krista Morton is the principal in question and she is no stranger to the questionable acts department. She has served in the role of principal at other schools in the past. In 2011 she was the principle of the Richard Millburn Academy. It was at this school that she began to make a name for herself in a very bad way. The schools performance, educationally speaking, began to slip. Students were not forced to meet the Florida education standards. Students were given crossword puzzles and word search games instead of real work. Grades were constantly changed and misprinted.
After the issues became public knowledge a formal investigation took place. While the details remain a little murky, Mrs. Morton did leave the school in 2011. Shortly after her decision to leave the school was shut down. This leads to the burning question of why she was allowed to lead a charter school in the first place. Her history and her track record are not shining examples of excellence.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this story is the untold number of times this has happened. Perhaps this would explain why the school was experiencing a downturn in educational standards. The testing scores were dropping and the students were not being pushed.
When this incident occurred on Wednesday, a Florida police officer noticed a parked car filled with smoke. When he approached the car he found the principle smoking pot and he noticed she had her shirt nearly undone. She assured the police officer that she and the 18-year-old were “just friends.”
