Washington DC State Fair To Highlight Marijuana
How many times have you ventured into the local state fair and witnessed the wide variety of marijuana plants and the different growing methods used? If you were like most citizens the answer would be zero. However that is exactly what visitors to the Washington D.C. Fair will find. This is already turning out to be a widely popular idea and the fair authorities are expecting a huge turn out for the event.
While the legalization of marijuana has been a huge issue for some time, Washington, D.C. legalized the plant completely in February of this year. Now the local fair is planning on a marijuana expo that will feature many varieties of marijuana as well as showcasing the many different methods for growing the plant. This new expo is going to be called the “Best Bud” competition and it is expected to draw a lot of attention.
“Now that it’s legal for residents of the District to grow their own plants, we wanted a way to highlight this new freedom while also showing off the agricultural talents of the District’s people,” Anna Tauzin, a board member and outreach director for the fair.
As with most types of flower and plant competitions, this bud contest will require that each participant place a 1-2 gram bud in a jar and then seal it and present it to the judges. The judges will then judge the bud on odor, appearance, touch, and the personal story of each participant.
It is important to understand that none of the pot being showcased will be allowed to be used. It is still illegal in D.C. to consume marijuana in a public place. While this might seem a bit prudish, the law is the law.
The D.C. State Fair will take place on September 12 and judging will begin at 4:20 p.m. Coincidence? I think not.
Overall this type of event could serve a huge purpose. Not only will this be a great opportunity to show the beauty behind the plants but it will also be another chance for the public to see just how normal and social marijuana really is. These types of events go a long way towards swaying the public opinion and there need to be more of them.
Is this an event that you would be interested in attending? Would you participate in a bud contest? Or is this just a way for the local authorities to see who has what and how much they have?
